Holidays are a wonderful time to spend with friends and family. Often celebrated with delicious food made with love and tasty treats. It’s okay to indulge in these things every so often. You know that feeling when you bite into those cookies made by grandma, the green bean casserole made by your favorite aunt or the mashed potatoes made by mom that tastes like you’re biting into buttery clouds? That feeling is comfort and it’s okay to feel this feeling. We know these things are treats, they are associated with warm and fuzzy feelings and it’s actually healing for our soul.
The holidays don’t come around that often, and I believe it’s okay and even a good thing to savor these moments with those we love without guilt. (If you are someone with a medical condition that requires you to follow a strict diet, you can always recreate these comfort foods with healthier alternatives.) I would assume there are some people reading this article that prioritize health and may catch themselves feeling that guilt when indulging. May I encourage you to leave that feeling behind? Know this time is short and you will soon return back to your healthy routine. Be gentle with yourself this season, friend.
Once you have enjoyed your time over the holidays and savored each moment, you may find yourself ready for a reset. A gentle u-turn back into your healthy routine, so to speak. In this post, you will read what I will be doing and hopefully find some great info on how to reset your body after the holidays and get back on track.
How to Reset your Body after the Holidays
- Juicing – Brothing for a couple days

(Juicer and bone broth are linked in that post), you can also read about my previous juicing experience here. - At the beginning of each year, we sit down and write out our family goals and that also includes health goals. We strive for removing processed sugar and inflammatory foods. There will still be plenty of fruit for the family to snack on. Sodas and juices are added sugar… so we remove those, as well.
- We’ll make sure we’re getting in 5 servings of veggies every day.
If you aren’t familiar with clean eating, WHOLE30 is good place to start. While I don’t fully support everything in whole30, it definitely has its benefits. I don’t support removing legumes but other than that, it’s not a bad program to do if you are trying to break away from processed foods. - I’ll be drinking half of my weight in oz of water every day
- Limit inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy, processed & non animal products on a normal basis.

These simple reset tips (partnered with my health guide – click link above) will help remove inflammation from the body while also adding in plenty of antioxidants, which are much needed during the winter months to fight off viruses and strengthen the immune system.
In the fall of 2022, I tried a new reset, just for two days, and I found it to be very feasible and nourishing. Instead of exclusively juicing for a couple of days, I decided to incorporate bone broth, which is rich in many important vitamins and minerals. I believe the reset was more feasible due to incorporating the warm, nourishing bone broth.
Another important reason I decided to incorporate bone broth in my most recent reset is that it may help avoid blood sugar spikes that could happen when exclusively juicing. Read full blog post here – How I Combine Juicing & Brothing for a Gentle Reset
Benefits of Juicing and Brothing
According to Dr. Axe, the benefits of juicing “provides a burst of micronutrients and enhances nutrient absorption.” Regarding Bone Broth, Dr. Axe says “Bone broth protects joints, heals the gut, maintains healthy skin, supports immune system function, boosts detoxification and aids the metabolism and promotes anabolism.”
Day 1 & 2 (Juicing + Brothing)
*The Blog Post “How to combine juicing and brothing for a gentle reset“ includes the brand of broth I use and the brand of juicer I recommend etc…
Important Note: Always remember to listen to your body. Everyone is different. You may need more broth throughout the day and that is OK!
Upon Waking – Drink a big glass of water with 1/2 lemon squeezed in it. I’ve previously written about lemon water and its many benefits. I still enjoy my warm cup of black tea in the mornings and warm herbal tea (caffeine-free) in the afternoon. If you want to try and cut your caffeine, you can do that. Totally up to you.
I personally like to fast until about 11 or 12. Which is usually a total of 16 hours of fasting for me. (I typically avoid fasting during PMS or Menstruation)
Breakfast – Juice 1
Root vegetable juice – I prefer to have a root vegetable juice in the morning because they are typically higher in natural fruit juices and I want to avoid the sugar in the evening.
Snack – 1 cup of Bone Broth
I typically put the bone broth on the stove, leave it in a pot and dip out what I need throughout the day. I account for somewhere around 16-24oz for the day.
Lunch – Juice 2
Green Juice
Snack – 1 cup of Bone Broth
Dinner – Juice 3
Green Juice
Day 3 & 4 (Nourishing Fruits and Vegetables – Detox Salad & Soup)
This is when we begin adding in healthy fiber and cruciferous vegetables, which are much needed for our digestive system & detoxing.
Upon Waking – Lemon water & Fast
Breakfast: Piece of Fruit & 1 Tbs. of Nut Butter
Lunch: Big Salad
Detox Salad

(optional: add 1 cup of bone broth to lunch)
Snack: A piece of fruit and handful of nuts
Dinner: Big Bowl of vegetable soup

After You Have Completed the Gentle Reset
You can continue with the detox salads and soups and just start incorporating minimal amounts of healthy clean fish and meat, nuts, seeds, legumes, and ancient grains if you like.
Here’s a little inspiration if you need it.
Morning: Lemon water/Tea or coffee
Breakfast: 1 egg/2 egg whites, fruit & nut butter
Snack: Vegan Protein Shake
Lunch: Detox Salad
Snack: Fruit & Nuts
Dinner: Clean meat, ancient grains, rice or potatoes, steamed vegetables.
Exercise + Detox
It is a personal preference if you want to exercise or not during the reset. I find that I lack the amount of energy I typically need for a moderate-intense workout. Therefore I typically take it a little easier during this reset. I may walk, do yoga, do a light strength workout, or do no workout at all. However, I am going to strive to sweat each day to help the detoxification process. I suggest hot Epsom salt baths to help sweat out those toxins.
It is worth mentioning, our bodies typically do a pretty good job detoxing on their own. The body detoxes through the liver, kidneys, digestive tract, lymphatic system, respiratory system, and skin. However, sometimes it can struggle to detox if we aren’t taking good care of our health. That is why I like to do a “reset” after overindulging, to gently guide my body and mind back into healthy living.
In closing
I hope you found this info on how to reset your body after the holidays helpful. I like to consider it a gentle u-turn for your body to get back on the path of healthy living. Remember… there should be no guilt associated with any indulges over the holiday season. Let it go, move on, move forward, and nourish your body. Praying blessings and good health over you and yours.
