I love a healthy, delicious side dish that the whole family will eat. Roasted brussel sprouts with bacon and maple syrup are a staple in our home, especially during the fall and winter seasons. Our boys LOVE them! You’ll be amazed how the bacon and tiny bit of maple syrup completely change the flavor of the brussel sprouts.
Health Benefits of Brussel Sprouts
Brussels sprouts are a nutritious and healthy vegetable with several benefits for your health.
- Low in calories & help control blood sugar.
- High in Fiber: They are a great source of dietary fiber, which can aid in digestion, help maintain regular bowel movements, and contribute to a feeling of fullness, making them a great option for weight management.
- Rich in Vitamins and Minerals: Brussels sprouts are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, vitamin K, vitamin A, vitamin B6, folate, potassium, and manganese.
- Antioxidant Properties: Brussels sprouts contain antioxidants like flavonoids and glucosinolates, which help protect your cells from damage caused by free radicals. That in turn can help prevent cancer.
Although bacon may not be the healthiest choice, the flavor it adds is just out of this world. It’s all about balance people. Also, my children have a hard time eating brussel sprouts without the bacon. I’m telling ya, it’s a game changer.
Non-Toxic Cookware
As a cook, having the right tools and equipment in your kitchen is essential to make your cooking experience more efficient and enjoyable. Here are some of my favorite non-toxic kitchen essentials.
- A Good Set of Knives: High-quality kitchen knives are arguably some of the most important tools in the kitchen. These are some of my favorites. They are amazing, but they won’t break the bank, like many high-quality knives.
- Quality Cutting Boards Wood and Plastic: Invest in a good cutting board, preferably one made of wood or high-quality, non-bpa plastic.
- Non-Toxic Baking sheets, Pots and Pans: A variety of high-quality pots and pans in different sizes and non-toxic material (e.g., stainless steel, cast iron, ceramic) are necessary for cooking different types of dishes.
- Non-Toxic Cooking Utensils: Spatulas, tongs, ladles, and wooden spoons are essential for stirring, flipping, and serving. Silicone utensils are my favorite as they are non-toxic and can tolerate extreme temperatures.
